There upon this dark receeding
floor of stone and ancient ore
do I settle all my soul and
far descend, forevermore

Yet hung in time, one day preceeding
warming then my soul to joy
happiness I had prevailing --
held at bay, some evil ploy

Then misting suddenly to view
chilling all through and through
there, a passing Shadow formed,
as frozen vapor morning dew

"You are!" it hurled from a soul
so cast of foreign frigid stone
"You ARE!," it bellowed all along
some stream of time lost and alone

'I am,' I thought in weak reply,
so wondering what midnight sky
may now be haunting hunting humming
faint my final lullabye

Suddenly with surge of courage
ringing loud as war torn bells
"What Am I?" I tore the silence
"What AM I?" in shrieking yells

No return of what I uttered
broke the silence following
perfect stillness hung alone,
some starving vacuum hollowing

So then beyond a far dim star
the Shadow peered and drew
Upon a realm called Nemesis
and surged once more anew

"You are," it quietly refrained,
then tearing through the dawn,
and once again in quiet thunder
"you are, you are...gone"

Uh...thanks.

But what is really interesting is how you can create a simple "comment," and right there lay down a piece of immortal verse.

Hmmm, I'm gonna keep practicing, drilling.

Gosh, Kent, I'm delighted to see your acumen for "traditional" verse. Likewise, your Sci-Fi proclivity shines through as Romantic as Coleridge, or as revelatory as Donne.

I applaud your versatility! And the use of the metaphor Nemesis is brilliant- as the source point of extinction,
which shows your breadth of knowledge of the Universe.
