PREVAILING WIND"
In a time long since passed
You held me once
As you do so now
In a different era and place.
We were quite the pair
We held onto virtues
In this period
Are even more rare.
Since then many values have changed
Promises are as easily taken
As they are given
Words are loosely defined.
Like a cup that can't hold water
Being full of holes
Through time, this perforation
Has weakened a cherished state.
We on the other hand
Stand as a shining example
A glowing flicker
Whose flame is in-extinguishable.
In a world of revolving
Inconsistencies
We are that foundation
Won't shift under any pressure.
This we accomplish
Through our interlocking stones
Only become more close knit
When faced with sheer adversity.
We are unorthodox
We follow footsteps we've made
Not those with such footprints
Like traps many have fallen into.
We are not perfect
We share disagreements
But do so with an ear
Of an underlying compromise.
We take our own cue
Gravitate towards compassion
Endure with a persistence
Of our prevailing wind.
