Brief Bio
Born and raised in Western Montana. Private lessons from local and venerated artist Hugh Hockaday at age 11 and 12. Band and choir in grade school and high school. Taught ceramics by my mother and handcraft and mechanic skills by my father.

I taught handcrafts and other skills in the Boy Scouts and was a junior leader until leaving for College. 33 merit badges, camp staff member two summers, and also a member of Order of the Arrow; a service group within the Boy Scouts.

Attended College at Pacific Lutheran University where I had art classes on creative design, general art and sketching. I also did some writing and played in the band and sang in one of the choirs, plus took part in a men's chorus. I studied voice, music and piano part of those years. I was a member of the Boy Scout fraternity APO (Alpha Phi Omega), which is a service group in the colleges where there are chapters.

Left college after three years and went to welding school. While there I donated for and established the beginnings of a library section dealing with environmental issues. I graduated with top grades and well ahead of schedule. Worked for around eight years in that profession.

Turned back to art in 1979 and worked at that on and off until 1988, while also working as a handyman. My first year in business as an artist my work was circulated via clients to parts of America, Europe, Asia Minor, and Japan.

I entered the religion of Scientology June of 1979 and during 1985 became a staff member of the church in Portland, Oregon. I was the Treasury Secretary for over four years there.

In our church public service department, but on my own time, I did over 600 volunteer portraits in retirement homes, nursing homes and other facilities during my last six years in Portland. Also did about two years of volunteer work for my church outreach program in other capacities and volunteered with another worthy group, CCHR (Citizen's Commission on Human Rights) before being on staff at my church. During a major project in summer of 1985 I housed and provided services for over 135 fellow church members for a good part of the summer.

Summer of 1986 I was in LA for another similar church project and headed the project's art department operating from a major in-house print shop all summer. My duties included lots of graphics darkroom work as well as creation of art for T-shirts and banners and I helped direct the groups who painted art and logos on busses used during this project. I was also called on to do special favors for as many as half a dozen other departments and branches as my kind of skills were in high demand.

Went into the Upper middle management with the church in 1989 and through to mid 1994. On one project I learned to operate a printing press and ended up printing tens of thousands of special forms and documents. Having become known for my darkroom and artistic skills during the 1986 project I was moved into a position where I also became experienced in typesetting and graphic design. In that post I completed hundreds of products, including typesetting, graphic design, darkroom and graphics production of various related kinds, including some darkroom and production work with our screen printer. I became very proficient at proofreading, use of copyright marks, use of trademarks and service marks, maintenance of computer, software and digital output equipment, and was also sought after by dozens of other branches and related groups, including upper management organizations, to help with their own special projects.

During my time on that post my work circulated around the world to between 160 and around 1000 locations two or three times a week on average!

Left this post in May 1994 and lived and worked in Montana for about 18 months; welding part of that time, but installing satellite dishes much of it and did some art work as well.

Came to LA in late Fall of 1995 and have been here since. Was in the church's choir during 96 and 97. Went to England and Berlin in 1996 for the Berlin march supporting religious freedom; marched in the demonstration and sang with the choir there. There were dozens, if not hundreds of religions represented.

Worked from 1995 till 2003 at the same printing company as a designer and typesetter creating all manner of products and designs for logos, logo cartoons, brochures, flyers, business cards, booklets, posters, packaging, etc. Was independent in the same work on and off since.

Worked for 22 months as a care person for a man who was psychotic. Next took care of and helped a brain-injured man to recover function. Worked with him for 15 months. Now am back to promoting my art and art skills and doing some work for web page creation largely demanding copywriting the content.

Magic and Miracles Defined

Magic and miracles are created when the recipient or witness:

a) perceives it as happening instantly, or faster than he knows possible

or

b) “knows” what was done can’t possibly be done

or

c) both of the above.

The anatomy of magic and miracles in any field includes:

Knowledge, experience, understanding, preparation, action and timing, leading to a predictable result.

These are also the composite parts of… Continue

Hidden pain

Minds scars one has received

oft show too apt how one’s deceived

to think he’d heal without a sign

of any cancer not benign.

For only takes but one small squeeze––

a jab, a jolt of small degrees

and slimy puss, emotion’s taint,

bursts forth, almost, without restraint

From injured place so numb and dead;

tiled o’re with scabs were long-since bled

and he is shocked and so surprised

at bitter thoughts so well… Continue

Nuisance

Weary, my eyes,

early this morn’

Droop so low

’spite of poem born.

Strays this corpse

to happy earned rest;

But playful pup

(my mind, the pest)

Nips at heels,

dances about

Till he, too,

is all worn out.

Out the Top

In this universe,

this single turn

of one great thought

filled with subthoughts

all is creation,

all is art,

design

and communication.

to look is to know,

to copy and perceived;

and understand the conceived.

on low is muddle;

chaos aswirl—

conditions fixed

by thoughts atwirl.

It's here reside

whose thoughts alter

what is,

and hide.

There's no future

'cause future's… Continue

Literature teachers and Critics...

Nasty little children––

Lit teachers
and critics

who pull
the legs off
my wiggly
spidery
poems
to see
how
they work.

New Rhinoceros Children's Book

I've been having a great year and creating lots of new things with Jenny. Over Christmas I was missing my guy Jack, so I wrote a book for him, then Jenny illustrated it. It's called The Toughskin Rhinoceros Wrangler Company. It's a simple story about the lengths we are willing to go to to see the people we miss. And there are dancing rhinoceroses. Here's some of Jenny's art…See More

The Threshold Bookcast : Chapter 13 : Keys To Ascension

Chapter 13 : Keys To AscensionRahu Lüli, the teenage monk from Kõrgus, is once again the central character of the weekly instalment of the Threshold Bookcast. This time, we find the novice reminiscing as he explores unknown territory uphill, following a hunch that has occurred to him prior to the morning ritual. « « Gazing up, the apprentice had detected an odd detail. Something was decidedly wrong about the view, and it couldn't but have a meaning. Over the years, the pitch black walls of…See More

Art is my World

During my earliest year in Elementary School, the only hobby that steals my time is sketching on my notebook. While my teacher is discussing and writing on the board, I am in my chair at the back busy in sketching. In that time I believed that learning could not be taken only from school, and knowledge is not only about speaking and writing but also drawing. My mother exasperated every time she checks my notebook because what she found was not my homework but those faces of my favorite anime like…See More
