People say misery loves company. I'm convinced that misery loves comfort even more.
Brief Bio
Unknown Souldier .............. A Better World
Between its cast of absolutely electric entertainers, incredibly proficient players, an enriching lyrical dichotomy, plus an overall commitment to creative excellence on all fronts, Unknown Souldier is amongst the current rock crop’s most exhilarating and inspiring. Sure the Big Apple-based group can boast collective credits as diverse as previous deals with RCA Records / BMG to tour positions with Gavin DeGraw, Avril Lavigne, and Matt White, but there’s also an underlying seeker-friendly sensitivity that also makes these four guys just as uplifting as they are musically gifted.
“We want people to come to us when they need healing from all that life throws their way, but also give them an opportunity to walk down a better path,” notes Brother Terry, a nickname that aptly summarizes his instantly inviting demeanor. “God fights for us every day and comforts us through our trials, just like those soldiers overseas who are fighting for our freedom. We might not know all of their names, but we have comfort in knowing they’re there. God walks before us, and always has our back as well - and that message seems to be striking a chord in a lot of the hearts & souls of those who have heard us.”
No matter what the environment, the unflinchingly honest message from the group’s newest release A Better World is the same and that’s to empower anyone - regardless of their background.
“The music is meant to be real, honest music that relates to what people are going through and meeting them where they’re at. "People say that misery loves company ... I'm convinced that misery loves comfort even more”, the frontman further explains .
A Better World is replete with personal tales and eternal truths to help bring a sense of healing to listeners, but never at the expense of softening the group’s unbridled rock n’ roll energy.
Take for instance the lead single “Beaten Bones,” which is currently lighting up mainstream and Christian stations alike with no holds barred aggression and a lyrical realization that there’s much more to life than amassing material possessions.
Other standout tracks include the motivating “Do the Right Thing,” the towering title cut "A Better World", the old time gospel great turned gritty “Because He Loved Me,” alongside the reminder that God’s always in control during “The Truth Is.”
“It’s basically a mixture of original songs and cover songs that fall in line with the story we want to tell,” Brother Terry echoes. “Some of the tunes are old hymns that were basically country or bluegrass when they first came out so many years ago, but now when we get a hold of them, they can literally range between Zeppelin-like to something you might hear on the Matrix soundtrack. In other words-we make them really rock!”
But beyond merely cranking the amplifiers up to eleven and packing out a concert hall with fist pumping fury, Unknown Souldier’s primary goal at the end of the day is to be a beacon of hope to the seeking. In fact, Brother Terry has a three principle plan though which he governs the band that can also apply to fans no matter how disconcerting or desperate their current life circumstance.
“First up, I strive to serve God, which as Bob Dylan even said, ‘you gotta serve somebody,’” he asserts. “From there, I make sure to stay in my place, because if you don’t stay committed to your family or just your own personal well being, everything gets out of whack. And lastly, don’t quit, no matter how hard it gets. As long as your heart’s still beating, you’re not done yet- there’s always hope around the corner.”
