The Lemmings are a rock /acoustic /pop band from Pretoria, South Africa, now partially based in the USA.

The band consists of founding members Abri van Straten - singer/songwriter and Ludwig Bouwer – bassist. Joining them are Warren Bruckmann on drums and Brian Hodge on Piano and Keyboards.

The music, of which there are three released albums, has been described as "fluid and poetic" creating a new space in today's arena.

The Lemmings have done several national tours in South Africa and two tours in Europe - twice to the UK and once to Sweden . In total, the band has played far over one thousand shows, including such famous events and venues as The Radium (Johannesburg), The Blues Room (Johannesburg), The Sun City Superbowl, Gunston 500, The Saint Hill Arts Festival (Sussex, UK), Tre Backar (Stockholm) and Roxy Rhythm Bar (Melville, Johannesburg).

About The Music:

Though The Lemmings is a great studio band, they are ultimately a live act that continues to blow audiences away with their two-hour concerts. From vast spacial moments that remind one of Pink Floyd, to shimmering and energetic anthems that get the audiences singing along, the band's dynamic performances are ultimately where the die-hard fans are won.

Abri comments: "We are motivated by the present situation on Earth and our position in it. Music can bring hope and create the feeling of a future worth living. Art is really all people have today - an appreciation of beauty. One of our biggest sources of inspiration is the following quote: "A culture is only as great as its dreams, and its dreams are dreamed by artists."

As a non-caucasian I may not have an "ear" for western music but let me tell you the vocal I am listening to right now is simply awesome! Where can I buy your music?
Great voice - great lyrics!

Dear Lemmings I listened to some of your songs and thought you might like to read this lyric. Your music has a warming and endearing touch.

PREVAILING WIND"

In a time long since passed

You held me once

As you do so now

In a different era and place.

We were quite the pair

We held onto virtues

In this period

Are even more rare.

Since then many values have changed

Promises are as easily taken

As they are given

Words are loosely defined.

Like a cup that can't hold water

Being full of holes

Through time, this perforation

Has weakened a cherished state.

We on the other hand

Stand as a shining example

A glowing flicker

Whose flame is in-extinguishable.

In a world of revolving

Inconsistencies

We are that foundation

Won't shift under any pressure.

This we accomplish

Through our interlocking stones

Only become more close knit

When faced with sheer adversity.

We are unorthodox

We follow footsteps we've made

Not those with such footprints

Like traps many have fallen into.

We are not perfect

We share disagreements

But do so with an ear

Of an underlying compromise.

We take our own cue

Gravitate towards compassion

Endure with a persistence

Of our prevailing wind.

New Rhinoceros Children's Book

I've been having a great year and creating lots of new things with Jenny. Over Christmas I was missing my guy Jack, so I wrote a book for him, then Jenny illustrated it. It's called The Toughskin Rhinoceros Wrangler Company. It's a simple story about the lengths we are willing to go to to see the people we miss. And there are dancing rhinoceroses. Here's some of Jenny's art…See More

The Threshold Bookcast : Chapter 13 : Keys To Ascension

Chapter 13 : Keys To AscensionRahu Lüli, the teenage monk from Kõrgus, is once again the central character of the weekly instalment of the Threshold Bookcast. This time, we find the novice reminiscing as he explores unknown territory uphill, following a hunch that has occurred to him prior to the morning ritual. « « Gazing up, the apprentice had detected an odd detail. Something was decidedly wrong about the view, and it couldn't but have a meaning. Over the years, the pitch black walls of…See More

Art is my World

During my earliest year in Elementary School, the only hobby that steals my time is sketching on my notebook. While my teacher is discussing and writing on the board, I am in my chair at the back busy in sketching. In that time I believed that learning could not be taken only from school, and knowledge is not only about speaking and writing but also drawing. My mother exasperated every time she checks my notebook because what she found was not my homework but those faces of my favorite anime like…See More
