Paula Maya is often compared to Bjork, Neil Young and The Beatles for her diverse and strong songwriting. “My true love is to write songs that help me, and hopefully my listeners, to get in touch with different emotions on a subconscious level, in a fun and deep way”.
Maya and her band have been performing at US venues and music festivals for over a decade, including Bumbershoot in Seattle, Rose Festival in Portland, San Francisco Gay Pride and Texas Jazz Festival.
A widespread response to Paula Maya's shows is: “Very charismatic performer. A pettite woman with a huge stage presence. And her band is hot, with a groove that makes you move."
In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she grew up, Paula had already the chance to open for some high profile artists, such as Caetano Veloso and Leila Pinheiro. In the US she has opened for, or shared the stage with: The Presidents of the United States of America; Tab Benoit; Cyril Neville (Neville Brothers); Vinicius Cantuaria.
Paula Maya moved to the US to pursue her recording career. Her latest release on Yellow House Records, Paula, was pre-selected for the prestigious Brazilian music awards Tim 2008, AKA the Brazilian Grammies. She celebrated with a show at the legendary Rio de Janeiro jazz club Mistura Fina, and was joined by Grammy winner drummer /producer Teo Lima (Dionne Warwick, Ivan Lins). Released in October 2007, Paula is still receiving great reviews, both within the music industry and with the general public.
She studied piano at the Brazilian Federal University of Music and graduated from the Brazilian Conservatory of Music. In Seattle Paula studied voice with Maestro David Kyle (Elton John, Paul McCartney, Eddie Vedder, Ann Wilson).

If one can truly listen
Thay can hear the sound
Of more than their own voice
Know when to be quiet.
To pick up on sensations
That are only perceptible
At a moment in time
When time seems to stand still.
Not to hear a pindrop
But to be in the presence
Of a far greater occurrence
When one can hear an inaudible life form.
If they are in touch with
A transparent root
An invisible filament
Provides light to a knowing core.
To come out of the darkness
Then perceive higher contact
With those beyond the border
Of a man made fence.
This takes an outlook
That has no boundaries
To experience the endless possibilities
When one thinks outside the box.
Life is limitless
In its scope and spectacles
We are born with more than what we know
We are all part of one sea.
As we're part of one forest
One sky and one earth
No one exists alone
Unless they choose to shut themself off.
My hand is a petal
Or a branch
My ears are like mountains
Or a running stream.
My eyes are like the stars
I absorb the sparkles
We are one and the same
Endowed with a sight from ancient chants.
Hi Paula This is a stimulating and invigorating atmosphere with a positive perspective for human creativity, where we shed ourselves of that ballast called human ego.
Wow! What a sound! Fantastic music, Paula! I've listened to "Insanity" and "High On You" several times and I'll be back to listen again. Very captivating and enchanting.
