- A General Profile:
Born in Chile, living in different places at childhood, school years, college, and work time. Presently in Santiago downtown; metropolitan vocation.
Many lives within the same bio lifespan. Sequential steps on a time ladder and multiplexed existences projecting routes on distinct timelines.
1956 class: Not a follower, sharing attitude, peaceful warrior, beauty lover, mind immunity to media spells, lucky to witness many myths unravelling around, shocked by JFK case, indifferent to moon landing, glad to know
about Woodstcok, drive for forward and upward art expressions.
A couple of beliefs on human matters:
Freedom and Love don't grow on trees, they are product of intelligent hard work and the art of love. Art is a way to freedom.
Poverty is not having too much resources, misery is having resources and make no use of them or avoiding others to use them.
It is misery that causes poverty, not the reverse.
Right or wrong, much of my work is done led by that way of thinking.
About Arts
Finally, I think art may be heretic but not erratic. I don't believe too much in throwing letter cubes as dices and making poetry by writing down the resulting words. Don't believe too much in improvising (music, dance, whatever) as a method of creation. They are just drills or exercises to improve mechanics or other skills. I do believe in inspiration as a more true source of creation. The triad idea, concept and form is more my approach to a master piece or merely art piece.
I don't want to obliterate the posibility of doing an art piece by improvising, but the question is "whose piece is the result of it?". Whose name should I write after the word "By"? (By Mere Luck, By Providence, By Limbo Spirits?). Art is a responsable doing. An artist is not naive or innocent, he interferes reality, he exists and is an author. His work is a metaphora of his own existence or part of it. It cannot be avoided.
About Art Direction
When working on a piece, an art specimen or production,
in this rol, the main (my) responsability is to convey what is unique. And what is unique? Having the subject matter,been emanated from my own creation or not, what is unique is my own fascination about it. So, my responsability is to convey that reflected emotional image of the subject reality to the spectator in such a way it is true and fair and hopefully beautiful and painless.
So, I do have fascinations about things, and I share the ones I deem to be worthwhile to be shared by others and will hopefully make good on them.
As for dance:
Don't believe classical ballet will dissapear. Ten years from now, may be there is no contemporary dance as we know it today, but the Nutcracker and Swans Lake will continue to be performed all over.
