Larry Williams has been playing guitar since he was five and has been performing in bands since he was thirteen. He began his professional music career at the ripe old age of 18 playing three nights a week in a local dance club. He was also a guitar instructor for about eight years, teaching up to 50 students per week.
After graduating cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh's Music program (Theory & Composition), he went on to study Film Scoring at Duquense University's graduate school.
He then attended the world-famous Musician's Institute in Hollywood (guitar program) and earned a Certificate for their one-year program. He then began a recording engineer career at a pro 24-track facility in Hollywood, starting as a gopher and working his way up to engineering and producing sessions on his own.
The studio was sold after a period of time and so he put together a series of cover bands and took them on the road, further honing his chops playing six nights a week.
He performed with Maxine Nightingale as her guitarist for over a year and has shared the stage with many notables such as Edgar Winter, David Campbell, Karen Black, Peter Schless, Thad and Liana Corea, and has performed on numerous recording sessions for others.
Always an arranger and often the musical director, he is usually found directing the spotlight to others and orchestrating behind-the-scenes activities. He has been writing jazz, pop, and country tunes for many years, and has written a film score for an independantly produced movie as well as two theme songs for TV pilots. He currently has songs scheduled to be included in two Showtime documentaries.
He has been devoting most of his time to composing and producing. He is a BMI-affiliated writer and currently works with several co-writers while producing solo artists in his studio in Valencia, CA.
He is also the moderator for two online discussion forums at Just Plain Folks (www.jpfolks.com): "Recording Studio and Gear" and "Guitar". (Just Plain Folks is an international site devoted to helping songwriters). Check out the site - it's great for all songwriters. AFABW member Harriet Schock is one of the mentors there.
Most currently, I am the Musician's Technical Liaison for this site.
