John Layton Bio

From outer space, gliding across the deep blue vacancy of the south Pacific to the jagged shore of the southern continent , and up the tendrils of Sydney Harbour , under the great arched bridge and making land fall at Iron Cove, came to earth a soul .

They called him John.

The earthly father was the strongman in a traveling carnival, would take on all comers, and never once lost. The strongman followed his dream around the world and eventually became a professional wrestler in North America.

But he would puzzle at his son. Although the boy displayed the more redeeming features of the Australian psyche, (hanging out at beaches, surfing, and drinking beer with his mates), he seemed to have a dark side, a disturbing artistic bent which eventually grew into a career.

Visit http://www.laytoncreations.com for info on miniature glass animal sculptures.

After much discussion between the two it was decided that a strongman was an artist in his own right, and that a musician and poet, (more of John’s disturbing bents), could learn from such performance.

The years sailed off without goodbyes, and so did strongmen, friends, and ex-wives, but there’s no reason to get too serious about such vagaries, better to turn them into stories than stone.

The Delta dances in syncopation and so does life, it’s never evenly spaced, and so Johns music. Stories carried on the beats of driving ragtime rhythms .

Once John was introduced as a cross between Robert Johnson and Lou Reed. If not entirely accurate in fact, accurate in spirit.

I Just Want To Be With You

Just before the morning light
The false dawn will tantalize
Those waiting in the night
And the long parade of time
That stretches in the past
And stretches in my mind
Some may say I seem bemused
No
I just want to be with you.

And the shadows I recall
Celebrated and ignored
Museum pieces all
They’re just relics on a shelf
Dust them off with rags
Then felling sorry for myself
Some may say I’ve got the blues
No
I just want to be with you.

I hear a church bell ring
I almost here the choir sing
Ano… Continue

Ode To Spring

When winter's dreary greyness
Starts to vanish by and by
And that stuck up virgen Springtime
Starts to wink her lovely eye
And my thaughts turn into daydreams
As I sit there like a stone
And the warm wind is a jenie
And it's wishes that I propose

I just saw my first insect
And he didn't moove too fast
I could have easily squashed him
But I let him stumble past
Because he's just vernal equinox joke
And then so am I
So I sit there while takes off
And I wish that I could fly

But airoplanes are so… Continue

Down The Road

Love take my hand
Lets walk for a mile
Where the road bends
Give me a smile
Hello and good by
That's how it goes
Meet me again
Down the road

Love is a bird
See how she flies
As small as a ring
As big as the sky
And Love has her way
She comes and she goes
Meet me again
Down the road

Feeling lost
In the archives of time
Could it be de ja vu
You seem so familiar
Like someone I knew
How do you do

Love take my hand
I'll sing you a song
And make up each verse
As we walk along
And time has it's way… Continue

This is great, Sharon. There's no void of down-toned comm on our planet today. You make a great point about creating "good effects", not only in our art, but in our lives as we lead them. That is what Ron says in Route To Infinity- just being a bea…

Your verses leave me detached, suspended in the silence of me. And then the endless contemplations of "what if" so much beauty could fill the spaces of us all.
