George Alger's Written Works

Poem: Daily, You and I

You and I
We create newly
through each
and all our days.

You and I
We inspire
others
In all our different ways.

You and I
in concert
newly
to enlighten beyond the sky.

You and I
for a better world
truly
for more than You and I.

Short Story: Winter Revelation

It’s cold. Very cold.

Mike Barody took in the view at the beginning of the snow-covered trail from the small parking lot in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. White lace adorned the naked birch, oak and maple trees standing confidently amidst the not-so-naked and white-laced evergreens that beckon entry to any that may heed the voice of the woods.

He closed the door of his 6-year-old Jeep Cherokee and took a deep breath as he started to walk. The winter air snapped… Continue

Short Story: Right Turn

Sometimes, it just takes a right turn to find out what’s really important.

Consider Lucy: A 33 year old, married mother of two (eight and ten year olds). She works part time at the local Dept Store selling men’s clothing accessories while her children are at school. Her husband, Jeremy, is a manager at a metal fabricating plant.

Lucy considers that she has mostly taken right turns in her life. Although sometimes she wonders if she really married the right man. Her husband,… Continue

Short Story: Is It Against The Law To Kill A Dead Man?

“Is he dead yet!?” Zelda fired her query at the Funeral Director with a thrust of pointed hostility.

In his 32 years running the Morrison Mortuary, Mr. Morrison had become quite adept at handling all manner of people—living or dead. Although consoling the bereaved requires a bit more skill than handling the deceased, he learned to address all with dignified aplomb. “My dear Mrs. Crescent, the hospital did everything they possibly could to save your husband. But this last heart attack… Continue

New Rhinoceros Children's Book

I've been having a great year and creating lots of new things with Jenny. Over Christmas I was missing my guy Jack, so I wrote a book for him, then Jenny illustrated it. It's called The Toughskin Rhinoceros Wrangler Company. It's a simple story about the lengths we are willing to go to to see the people we miss. And there are dancing rhinoceroses. Here's some of Jenny's art…See More

The Threshold Bookcast : Chapter 13 : Keys To Ascension

Chapter 13 : Keys To AscensionRahu Lüli, the teenage monk from Kõrgus, is once again the central character of the weekly instalment of the Threshold Bookcast. This time, we find the novice reminiscing as he explores unknown territory uphill, following a hunch that has occurred to him prior to the morning ritual. « « Gazing up, the apprentice had detected an odd detail. Something was decidedly wrong about the view, and it couldn't but have a meaning. Over the years, the pitch black walls of…See More

Art is my World

During my earliest year in Elementary School, the only hobby that steals my time is sketching on my notebook. While my teacher is discussing and writing on the board, I am in my chair at the back busy in sketching. In that time I believed that learning could not be taken only from school, and knowledge is not only about speaking and writing but also drawing. My mother exasperated every time she checks my notebook because what she found was not my homework but those faces of my favorite anime like…See More
