Brian Cobbledick Bio

Born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, I was the third child of six, having two brothers and three sisters. I am the entrepreneur of the family, looking for ways to create new things. Technically inclined I graduated from college as an Electronics Technologist. I married and acquired my Black Belt in Judo the same year.

Before I became hooked on poetry, I was a photographer also creating graphics and graphite/charcoal drawings. I also loved drafting and creating forms. My first camera was an Olympus OM-1. I shot as many pictures as I could afford. Scenic, portraiture, action, groups – you name it and I tried them all. As my ‘hobby’ grew, I was asked to take pictures for many occasions, including work. This led me to appreciate how photos could become the window to my relations with the past - be it people, places or things. It helped me realize the beauty in everything around me. Some of my best photos are from my own backyard. At this point I started to write poetry to go with the photos.

Many people have asked me where I came up with the beautiful, insightful poems. My reply – they come from the expression and rhythm of my photography - the world around you will give up it’s secrets if you are ready, observant and patient. There’s beauty all around. You just have to open your eyes to it.

trump

don’t know where we’re going
reflections show the past
mirrors not the present
first becomes the last
for what has been
will always be
the path of futures seen
living in the moment
is more than just a dream

places unimagined
thoughts we’ve taken back
unshow our deepest secrets
unhiding all we lack
unfear to question how
past and future blend
in eternal now
as time rips to unend

know denying things not said
between the lines
where white is read
colors not the shadow sounds

sculpting sounds
to carve with air
art of waves
merge those who dare
face of music
notes are one
melody rapted as it’s spun
weaving gently
metal web
link and couple
what’s been said
many times and many ways
though words are words
until they’re played
intricate in harmony,
dissonance
where none can see

vibrate slowly
low to high
deepest bass
can transform lives
move the heart
and then the soul
captivates us in it’s flow
moving swifter
wondrous rift
lighter mood

harsh and long

but in the end we lose
mais à la fin nous perdons
shackles that have tied us
dispositifs d'accrochage qui nous ont attachés
to a mundane pace
à un pas mondain
rewards we gain after the pain
récompenses que nous gagnons après la douleur
to win this wondrous race

scattered

footprints cross the heart and mind
they beckon us,
dare to follow
the path we could have gone
had we understood our journeys end

for every now is a memory
lost in the passed
what has been
can
never
be
again

enter with
scattered thoughts
like the weeds of time
choke and bind
the fertile musings
'til we must
gaze in another light
digging through the elusive clutter for
meaning

words
emotions

a new
thread
on which to build
weaving
the fabric of
what we feel

to be the future

This is great, Sharon. There's no void of down-toned comm on our planet today. You make a great point about creating "good effects", not only in our art, but in our lives as we lead them. That is what Ron says in Route To Infinity- just being a bea…

Your verses leave me detached, suspended in the silence of me. And then the endless contemplations of "what if" so much beauty could fill the spaces of us all.
