"hahaha you're right about the rugby! And the one street has grown into a nightmare, it took me over 30 minutes to get from one end of Queen street to the other end (K'Rd)! I try to avoid having to go into the city as much as possible.…"

Brief Bio
I live amongst a small stand of trees, beside the sea near Auckland, NZ.

I work with children, creating ways to learn emergent Maori language, and about Maori culture while enabling each person to tell their individual, family, tribal and traditional stories in their own unique way.

I favour weaving harakeke (NZ flax), painting, collaging, silversmithing and writing when telling my own stories.

Poem: My slow progression....

captured thoughts
bleeding
across the panorama
of my mind
a white page
to fill in
leave track marks
to show
my slow progression

Poem: ngawini raua ko maihi: to make sense of the world...

if i could count
the times you both spent
teaching me to read
between the lines
of human nature
sifting amongst word image relics
from which to make
sense of the world
to live with integrity
there would not be
enough stars in this galaxy
for each moment in time with you

nga taonga aroha - gifts of love

from amongst the headstones

in the cemetery on the hill

overlooking whakataha the sacred mountain

and waitangi the sacred river

the crescendo of the piri wiri tua brass band

rendition of paloma blanca reached its final note

as i walked away from the body of my tupuna

laying in the grave

bags packed and children asleep

in the back of the isuzu

slowly driving along the pot-holed

dusty unsealed road

away from tauwhara… Continue

New Rhinoceros Children's Book

I've been having a great year and creating lots of new things with Jenny. Over Christmas I was missing my guy Jack, so I wrote a book for him, then Jenny illustrated it. It's called The Toughskin Rhinoceros Wrangler Company. It's a simple story about the lengths we are willing to go to to see the people we miss. And there are dancing rhinoceroses. Here's some of Jenny's art…See More

The Threshold Bookcast : Chapter 13 : Keys To Ascension

Chapter 13 : Keys To AscensionRahu Lüli, the teenage monk from Kõrgus, is once again the central character of the weekly instalment of the Threshold Bookcast. This time, we find the novice reminiscing as he explores unknown territory uphill, following a hunch that has occurred to him prior to the morning ritual. « « Gazing up, the apprentice had detected an odd detail. Something was decidedly wrong about the view, and it couldn't but have a meaning. Over the years, the pitch black walls of…See More

Art is my World

During my earliest year in Elementary School, the only hobby that steals my time is sketching on my notebook. While my teacher is discussing and writing on the board, I am in my chair at the back busy in sketching. In that time I believed that learning could not be taken only from school, and knowledge is not only about speaking and writing but also drawing. My mother exasperated every time she checks my notebook because what she found was not my homework but those faces of my favorite anime like…See More
